The voices of China’s Animal Husbandry Industry

With the effective control of the COVID-19 outbreak in China, China's animal husbandry industry is essentially back to work and production. In these exceptional times, VIV QINGDAO interviewed some well-known domestic animal husbandry companies about various perspectives, such as business development, trade strategy, industry growth and problem solving experiences in this epidemic. Let’s take a look at what the Chinese animal husbandry leaders share with their overseas industry colleagues.

Company: Healthy (Hangzhou) Husbandry Sci-tech. Co., Ltd.
Interviewee: Lou Weijie
Position: President

What do you think of the new challenges for the animal husbandry from the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic to the present stage? In what way will it influence the strategies in China and overseas market?

Firstly, it’s difficult to employ workers. With the lockdown, the farm workers cannot rest randomly and the workers from out of town cannot return back.  Secondly, the swine industry is suffering from Africa swine fever virus at the moment and the national pig production has been in serious undersupply for two years, which has a great impact on people’s income. Moreover, all the measures in production recovery are delayed due to the outbreak of COVID-19. During the epidemic, it’s inconvenient to ship feed and materials. The feed cannot go come in and products cannot go out, which has a lot of influence on the development of animal husbandry in the short run.

In the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, the animal husbandry industry shows new vitality. What do you think of the future developments and changes? Which trends will be more obvious?

Opportunities and challenges coexistent. COVID-19 has a huge impact on the global economy, but there are still many industries seizing the opportunity and are going against the trend, especially medical health and basic livelihood industries. Human nutrition and health will be the continuous theme in the future. Healthy is committed to providing high quality betaineproducts to the world and protecting the health and development of the animal husbandry industry.

All kinds of exchanges like domestic and international exhibitions and visiting customers cannot be carried anymore, some exhibitions were even cancelled directly, which is a blow to the communication and development of domestic and foreign animal husbandry. We will not be able to talk normally face to face with our customers for quite a long time. During the pandemic, the concept and operation models for many aspects of the industry have been integrated online, which shows the rapid development of the animal husbandry. E-commerce platforms, online office meetings, online courses, online customer visits and other ways have been widely implemented and used, this will be the major trend of future industry development.

After the global pandemic eases, mainly in the second half of this year, will the market demand for products and technologies increase substantially?

Although the epidemic continues overseas , all activities will gradually return to normal in the second half of the year. The first consideration for feeding enterprises is to restore and expand the capacity of production in the near future. Meanwhile, some powerful enterprises are considering building a complete industry chain. In addition, due to the impact of the epidemic, the demand for stability of breeding facilities will increase greatly in the future. There will be higher demands for the automation of products and to reduce the dependency on people in the workplace.
